And with each quiet step, we insist – we are here, Pamela Garcia Valero
In this body of work, Pamela Garcia turns the humble snail into a vessel for memory, migration, and transformation. Crawling across thresholds, windows, and walls, these creatures map a slow and steady presence, leaving behind more than just ephemeral trails: a neural choreography of the auditory pathway, from the cochlea to the cortex. The quiet gesture of placing snails throughout the gallery transcends decorative or symbolic gesture, becoming an act of re-rooting. They embody slowness, resilience, and the refusal to be erased. Here, the installation listens as much as it speaks, unfolding as a tactile, spatial meditation on the ways we process and preserve experience—both within and beyond ourselves. Echoing through the cochlear spiral—the body’s internal mechanism for translating vibration into sound—the work invites us to consider what it means to truly listen. Not only to others, but to ourselves, to history, and to what lingers beneath the surface.A spiral that stores time. A wound turned architecture.
This exhibition is not only about migration; it is about the delicate structures we build to protect ourselves. The memories that refuse to fade and the traces we leave behind. It offers no tidy resolution, only a spiraling invitation to slow down, to listen closely, and to reconsider what it means to inhabit a place, a body, a history.
We carry our homes within us. We carry each other.
And with each quiet step, we insist—we are here.
